    Mixed Media Artist

  • About

I am a ceramic artist creating mainly quirky female figurative sculptures.

Usually working with earthenware or porcelain paper clay, I hand build characterful animals and quirky female figures often with a steampunk twist. All of my pieces are hand built, made using coiling or slabbing techniques and after firing are normally finished with Amaco velvet underglazes, Mayco glazes or cold finishes.

I greatly admire the work of modern clay artists Johnson Tsang, Beth Carver and painter Georgy Kurasov. I search my imagination for inspiration rather than focusing on realism preferring to sculpt in a fantasy style often with steampunk/gothic twist. I am self-taught, my passion for painting and sculpture began as a young child and is still my main obsession in life, a means of expression, my therapy, my greatest satisfaction.

I love teaching having over 30 years’ experience and a City and Guilds teaching certificate. I have worked in several schools, colleges, clubs, and taught private groups in my Worcestershire studio.

    £20

Excited to share a few new workshop dates with you:

    • Sunday 12th September . Moon gazing hair sculpture 1pm - 5pm £45

    1. Create your piece at class, leave at studio to air dry (minimum 1 week).
    2. It is fired for the first time during week 2-3.
    3.  After this it will need to be glazed and fired. You can take your makes home  3 days later.
    • Glazing can be matt or glossy and gives another layer/protective coating to a piece.
    • We use a white earthenware clay which is low fired and like most clay is not frost proof. We do make items for outside as well as others for the home but they should be brought inside to avoid frost damage
