  • About

I am a ceramic artist creating mainly quirky figurative sculptures.

Mainly working with white groged earthenware I hand build strange animals and quirky female figures. Most of my pieces are made using coiling or slabbing techniques and after firing are normally finished with Amaco velvet underglazes.

I greatly admire the work of potter Johnson Tsang and painter Georgy Kurasov. I work from my imagination and prefer to sculpt in a fantasy style rather than aiming to portray realism. I am self taught, my passion for painting and sculpture began as a young child and is still my main obsession in life, a means of expression, my therapy, my greatest satisfaction.

I am also a tutor having over 30 years experience and a City and Guilds teaching certificate. I have worked in several schools, colleges, and taught private groups in my Midlands studio. I strongly believe that any form of art is a wonderful therapy/stress reliever and I love helping others discover the joy of 'playing in the mud'

Each handmade by myself using earthenware clay. First I shape the clay paying attetion to head shape, ears etc. so it looks like the cat its based on. Using fine tools I add fur texture effects then the head is left to air dry before being fired in my kiln. It is then carefully painted to match the real thing with a special matt glaze before having a second firing. Wire whiskers are the last part to be added. Send pictures of your pet and I will sculpt a look a like version to hang on your wall or give as a unique gift for a pet lover. Please allow 2-3 weeks for completion and delivery
